Welcome – Central Event for World Sepsis Day 2023 in Berlin on 12 September 2023
Since the founding of the World Sepsis Day movement in 2012 and the adoption of WHA Resolution 70.7 five years later, sepsis awareness has increased significantly worldwide and the fight against sepsis has made tangible progress. The recent commitment by G7 health ministers to "advance the implementation of the WHA resolution" and "intensify efforts to strengthen early detection, diagnosis and treatment of sepsis and ensure synergies with antimicrobial stewardship programs and IPC" is another historic milestone and a quantum leap in the fight against these global health threats.
Yet few countries have made sepsis a priority for their health systems, as called for in the WHO sepsis resolution, and are not yet taking advantage of synergies with the fight against AMR. Unfortunately, this is not only the case in areas where sepsis incidence and AMR problems are highest, such as Africa and South-East Asia. This is why the implementation of the demands in the G7 Health Ministers' Communiqué is so important. The aim of this event is:
to underpin the urgent need for implementation of these demands at national and international levels;
to demonstrate what health systems strengthening and health literacy interventions for sepsis prevention and early detection in civil society have contributed to reducing the number of preventable deaths from sepsis; and
to demonstrate what contribution innovations in the field of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infections and sepsis can make to our goal: "Zero preventable deaths from sepsis".

Willkommen – Zentrale Veranstaltung zum Welt-Sepsis-Tag 2023 in Berlin am 12. September 2023
Seit der Gründung der Welt-Sepsis-Tag-Bewegung im Jahr 2012 und der Verabschiedung der WHA-Resolution 70.7 fünf Jahre später ist das Bewusstsein für Sepsis weltweit deutlich gestiegen und der Kampf gegen Sepsis hat spürbare Fortschritte gemacht. Die jüngste Zusage der G7-Gesundheitsminister, "die Umsetzung der WHA-Resolution voranzutreiben" und "die Anstrengungen zur Stärkung der Früherkennung, Diagnose und Therapie von Sepsis zu intensivieren und Synergien mit Programmen zum Umgang mit antimikrobiellen Mitteln und IPC zu gewährleisten", ist ein weiterer historischer Meilenstein und ein Quantensprung im Kampf gegen diese globalen Gesundheitsbedrohungen.
Dennoch haben nur wenige Länder Sepsis zu einer Priorität für ihr Gesundheitssystem gemacht, wie es in der WHO-Sepsis-Resolution gefordert wird, und nutzen noch nicht die Synergien mit dem Kampf gegen AMR. Leider gilt dies nicht nur für die Gebiete, in denen die Sepsis-Inzidenz und die AMR Problematik am größten ist, wie in Afrika und Südostasien. Deshalb ist die Umsetzung der Forderungen im Communiqué der G7 Gesundheitsminister von so großer Bedeutung.
Das Ziel dieser Veranstaltung ist:
die dringende Notwendigkeit der Umsetzung dieser Forderungen auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene zu untermauern;
aufzuzeigen, welche Maßnahmen zur Stärkung der Gesundheitssysteme und Gesundheitskompetenz zur Sepsisprävention und – Früherkennung in der Zivilgesellschaft zur Reduzierung der Zahl der vermeidbaren Todesfälle durch Sepsis beigetragen haben und
aufzuzeigen, welchen Beitrag Innovationen im Bereich der Prävention, Diagnostik und Therapie von Infektionen und Sepsis zu unserem Ziel: "Null vermeidbare Todesfälle durch Sepsis" leisten können.
