Tobias Welte

Tobias Welte is Professor of Pulmonary Medicine and Director of the Department of Pulmonary and Infectious Diseases at Hannover University School of Medicine, Hannover, Germany. Previously, Professor Welte held the position of Professor of Pneumology and Intensive Care Medicine and a Specialist in Infectious Diseases at the University of Magdeburg, Germany.

Professor Welte leads a multicentre research group focusing on the epidemiology, diagnosis, and management of respiratory infections and the pathophysiology and treatment of obstructive airway disease. He has published around 1000 papers in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to chapters in over 150 books.

Professor Welte has been the President of the European Respiratory Society and serves on the executive boards of the German Centre for Lung Research (DZL). He is also an internal advisory board member of the German Centre for Infectious Disease Research (DZIF), a member of the review panel for clinical studies of the German Research Foundation (DFG), and the Chairman of the Community-acquired Pneumonia (CAPNETZ) and the Sepsis Foundation foundation. He was previously the President of the German Society of Pneumology, President of the German Society of Sepsis, and the President of the German Society of Internal Intensive Care (DGIN). As well as being on the editorial boards of the European Respiratory Journal, Respiratory Medicine and Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgeon, he is also the previous Chief Editor of the European Respiratory Monograph.

Tobias Welte ist Professor für Lungenheilkunde und Direktor der Abteilung für Lungen- und Infektionskrankheiten an der Medizinischen Hochschule Hannover. Zuvor war Professor Welte Professor für Pneumologie und Intensivmedizin und Spezialist für Infektionskrankheiten an der Universität Magdeburg, Deutschland.

Professor Welte leitet eine multizentrische Forschungsgruppe, die sich mit der Epidemiologie, Diagnose und Behandlung von Atemwegsinfektionen sowie der Pathophysiologie und Behandlung obstruktiver Atemwegserkrankungen beschäftigt. Er hat rund 1000 Artikel in von Experten begutachteten Fachzeitschriften veröffentlicht und an Kapiteln in über 150 Büchern mitgewirkt.

Professor Welte war Präsident der European Respiratory Society und ist Mitglied des Vorstands des Deutschen Zentrums für Lungenforschung (DZL). Darüber hinaus ist er internes Beiratsmitglied des Deutschen Zentrums für Infektionsforschung (DZIF), Mitglied der Gutachterkommission für klinische Studien der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) und Vorsitzender der Stiftung Community-acquired Pneumonia (CAPNETZ) und der Stiftung Sepsis. Zuvor war er Präsident der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Pneumologie, Präsident der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Sepsis und Präsident der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Internistische Intensivmedizin (DGIN). Er ist Mitglied der Redaktionsbeiräte des European Respiratory Journal, der Respiratory Medicine und des Thoracic Cardiovascular Surgeon sowie ehemaliger Chefredakteur des European Respiratory Monograph.
