Today, the Global Sepsis Alliance is thrilled to announce that the 2023 GSA Awards are now open for applications and nominations from all over the world.

The GSA Awards honor major contributions in the fight against sepsis every year and are exclusively and kindly sponsored by the Erin Kay Flatley Memorial Foundation.

The awards are granted in three categories:

1. Governments and healthcare authorities

2. Non-Governmental organizations, patient advocate groups, or healthcare provider groups

3. Individual nominees

In addition to recognition, prestige, and – of course – a beautiful trophy, winners of categories 2 and 3 are awarded $2,500 each.

The deadline to apply or nominate is Tuesday, October 31, 2023 end of the day. Please share this opportunity with your colleagues, friends, and other interested parties.

Our friends and colleagues from the Sepsis Alliance are hosting the ‘Sepsis Alliance Summit’ this Wednesday and Thursday – and it’s not too late to register to participate virtually.

The Sepsis Alliance Summit will feature two days of learning and inspiration for healthcare professionals across the continuum of care, including nurses, physicians, pharmacists, allied health professionals, data/quality/safety/IT professionals, students, leadership, policymakers, and industry leaders.

Designed to explore an array of sepsis-related topics in healthcare, the Sepsis Alliance Summit will include expert presentations from clinicians, innovation experts, and other influential leaders. Join the sessions that are relevant to your practice and interests, and increase your sepsis knowledge and skills. We encourage you to attend sessions live, as speakers will be present to answer questions and share knowledge for most sessions. If you are unable to attend live, sessions will be prerecorded and available at a later time.

Additionally, free nursing CE credits are offered, along with a certificate of attendance for other participants.

The Swedish Sepsisfonden awarded Prof. Reinhart with the Sepsisfonden Award at the 2023 World Sepsis Day Event at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. Ulrika Knutsson and Dr. Adam Linder, founders of Sepsisfonden, highlighted the critical leadership role of Prof. Reinhart in the global sepsis movement, research, and advocacy, and how he has inspired the work of Sepsisfonden in Sweden and in the broader Nordics region.

The event was opened by the address from Acko Ankarberg Johansson – Minister for Healthcare, Ministry of Health and Social Affairs of Sweden, and attended by Dr. Malin Grape – Ambassador on Antimicrobial Resistance, Division for EU and International Affairs of the Ministry.

Representatives of the Karolinska Institute, researchers, and civil society partners presented their work on the national sepsis policies, tools, as well as advocacy activities implemented in Sweden in partnership with the national health authority and Sepsisfonden.

The Global Sepsis Alliance expresses special gratitude to Dr. Kristoffer Stralin and Dr. Lisa Mellhammar for their critical role in generating national sepsis policies and evidence, respectively, and to Shahrzad Kiavash for her unique role in sepsis awareness raising awareness and being an inspiration for thousands of sepsis survivors and their families globally.

In a concerted effort to combat critical health challenges and accelerate progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), leaders, experts, and advocates from around the world will convene for a High-Level Side-Event during the 78th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA78). This pivotal gathering, scheduled for Thursday, September 21, 2023, is titled ‘Synergizing Global Actions for Sepsis, AMR, and PPPR for Attaining Health-Related SDGs’, and is co-hosted by the Clinton Health Access Initiative, the Global Antibiotic Research & Development Partnership, the Global Sepsis Alliance, the Medical Women’s International Association, the Sepsis Stiftung, UNITE, and the Virchow Foundation for Global Health.

The High-Level Side-Event will take place at the Hilton Midtown in New York City, serving as a platform for fostering collaboration and innovation in the fight against sepsis and antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and promoting public-private partnerships for health-related SDGs.

Distinguished speakers and attendees will include former global leaders, experts, advocates, and representatives from civil society and international organizations. The event aims to foster interdisciplinary dialogue, drive policy changes, and encourage concrete commitments to address these pressing health challenges.
