Registrations for “Sepsis 2021: Rethinking Sepsis in Resource-Constrained Settings: The Viewpoint from Africa” are now open.

The Sepsis 2021 Symposium is co-hosted by the International Sepsis Forum, the African Sepsis Alliance, and the Rwandan Emergency Care Association. Over two days, it will address the diagnosis, epidemiology, science, and clinical management of sepsis, taking into account both the situation in low and middle-income countries (LMIC) as well as the current COVID-19 situation.

This conference will be mostly virtual and focus on sepsis care worldwide, but especially care in LMICs.

It will also provide a unique opportunity to hear from and engage with international and African thought leaders from the fields of critical care, infectious diseases, internal medicine, and emergency medicine, who have extensive expertise in the clinical care, science, and investigation of sepsis and the host response, and in the design, implementation, and interpretation of clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of sepsis treatments. The current COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on sepsis will also be discussed.

Sepsis 2021 will be held 28-29 October, and we invite you to join us for this annual event.

Can a Rapid Point-of-Care Biomarker Test Help Physicians Identify Sepsis 72 Hours Earlier?
210819_Material_Webinar_2021_Website_JGA.jpg

Sepsis is a medical emergency, and even a 1-hour delay in the diagnosis of sepsis can lead to higher mortality rates, more irreversible and lifelong consequences, and an increased length of hospital stay for patients. There is an important need for a diagnostic tool that can rapidly identify the onset of sepsis and allow for earlier management. Abionic's sepsis test exploits the kinetics of the Pancreatic Stone Protein (PSP) biomarker in blood, to immediately signal whether a patient has sepsis or not, up to 72 hours before the standard of care.

Join Abionic* for this free online webinar on the 22nd of September to discover real-world evidence from 3 European hospitals and how they've implemented the use of PSP measurements to support their everyday activities. Earlier identification of sepsis opens a window of opportunity to improve the treatment and management of the disease.

Follow the registration link below to see the line-up of expert speakers and the internationally renowned Chairman.

*Abionic is a sponsor of World Sepsis Day – you can read our sponsorship guidelines here. The Global Sepsis Alliance was not involved in organizing this webinar.

Register Now for the 4th Annual Meeting of the European Sepsis Alliance on September 9

The European Sepsis Alliance is excited to invite you to its 4th Annual Meeting. Join us on September 9, 2021, for this free event that will be held completely online. It will provide an opportunity to hear from policymakers, experts, and patients about how sepsis can fit into the European health agenda and what are the solutions to the lack of awareness and knowledge about sepsis.

SEPSIS CONTINUES TO COST LIVES

Despite some advances in some European countries, the limited attention offered to sepsis continues to undermine the efforts to improve its prevention, recognition, and management – and is costing lives. As described in a recent publication by the Global Sepsis Alliance and other scientific societies, most patients admitted in the ICU with COVID-19 progress into viral sepsis, making sepsis the main cause of death in this pandemic. Health systems that are resilient against sepsis and severe infection will be resilient against future such pandemics.

Countries and regions have started taking encouraging actions, but this is not enough. We need to engage with more stakeholders to ensure that sepsis becomes a priority in the public health agenda for all countries across the whole European Union and continent.

Join the discussion on September 9 with representatives from WHO, European Parliament, Commission, Council, ECDC, renowned experts, and patient groups.
