Konrad Reinhart is recognized as an international champion of sepsis. He is the Founding President of the Global Sepsis Alliance, one of the key initiators of World Sepsis Day, and co-founder of World Sepsis Congress. He is a member and was chairman of the International Sepsis Forum and a member of the Council of the World Federation of Societies of Intensive & Critical Care Medicine from 2008-2013. In Germany, he is a member of the German National Academy of Science Leopoldina and Chairman of the Sepsis-Foundation. He was the founding President of the German Sepsis Society and its president from 2001- 2009. As speaker of the nationwide German research network SepNet he initiated landmark studies on the efficacy and safety of therapeutic approaches in sepsis as well as on the epidemiology of sepsis in Germany. He was the initiator of the Center for Sepsis Control & Care (CSCC) at Jena University Hospital. His research activities in the field of sepsis and intensive care medicine led to more than 750 peer-reviewed publications and the Research Award of the Federal State of Thuringia/Germany. As Senior Professor at the CSCC, his publicly funded research is focused on quality improvement of sepsis management and long-term sequelae of sepsis. 

Konrad Reinhart ist als internationaler Sepsis-Verfechter anerkannt. Er ist Gründungspräsident der Global Sepsis Alliance, einer der Hauptinitiatoren des Welt-Sepsis-Tages und Mitbegründer des Welt-Sepsis-Kongresses. Er ist Mitglied und war Vorsitzender des Internationalen Sepsis-Forums und war von 2008 bis 2013 Mitglied des Rates der World Federation of Societies of Intensive & Critical Care Medicine. In Deutschland ist er Mitglied der Nationalen Akademie der Wissenschaften Leopoldina und Vorsitzender der Sepsis-Stiftung. Er war Gründungspräsident der Deutschen Sepsis-Gesellschaft und von 2001 bis 2009 deren Präsident. Als Sprecher des bundesweiten Forschungsnetzwerks SepNet initiierte er wegweisende Studien zur Wirksamkeit und Sicherheit von Therapieansätzen bei Sepsis sowie zur Epidemiologie der Sepsis in Deutschland. Er war der Initiator des Center for Sepsis Control & Care (CSCC) am Universitätsklinikum Jena. Seine Forschungsaktivitäten auf dem Gebiet der Sepsis und Intensivmedizin führten zu mehr als 750 begutachteten Publikationen und dem Forschungspreis des Landes Thüringen/Deutschland. Als Seniorprofessor am CSCC konzentriert sich seine öffentlich finanzierte Forschung auf die Qualitätsverbesserung des Sepsismanagements und die Langzeitfolgen der Sepsis.
